OPMEGA to present its gastronomic days dedicated to mussels in Valladolid

Vilagarcía de Arousa, 27th September. The Organisation of Galician Mussel Producers, OPMEGA, will land in Valladolid from 3 to 5 October with the ‘OPMEGA Gastronomic Days’. Three days of free activities with which the Galician PO will present the nutritional and gastronomic benefits of mussels in the Mercado del Val.
This market, located just a few metres from Valladolid’s Plaza Mayor, is the oldest in the city and is bustling with activity throughout the day. In the mornings, the traditional stalls are the protagonists. In the afternoons, the gastrobars of the Val take over.
From Thursday 3rd to Saturday 5th October, customers and visitors to the Val have one more reason to visit the market; they will be able to taste the best Galician mussels completely free of charge, both at the OPMEGA information stand and at the gastrobars themselves.
In addition, the chef Miguel Mosteiro will offer 5 showcookings, in which he will prepare different mussel recipes live and will explain the benefits of consuming this bivalve, as well as its traditional cultivation and harvesting process in the Galician estuaries. Participants in these activities not only have the opportunity to witness the preparation of the dishes, but also to taste them completely free of charge.
The market’s fishmongers, for their part, will present their customers with the new trays of fresh mussels developed by OPMEGA. An innovative packaging in which the mussels are presented alive and totally clean. In addition, the controlled atmosphere of these trays allows the shelf life of the fresh mussels to be extended by 40%, facilitating their consumption, as they are microwaveable. The purchase of these trays of Galician mussels will be incentivised with the gift of recipe books and other promotional gifts.
This is already the fifth year that the OPMEGA Gastronomic Days are touring Spanish markets. The initiative of the Galician Mussel Producers’ Organisation, which seeks to raise awareness of the virtues of Galician mussels among consumers, while at the same time reclaiming traditional markets as the centres in which to obtain the best fresh product, has already visited cities such as Madrid, Valencia and Bilbao. This year, in addition to Valladolid, the campaign is due to land in Seville in November.
