Valladolid, 4 October 2024. From 3 to 5 October, the Mercado del Val de Valladolid is the epicentre of the ‘Jornadas Gastronómicas OPMEGA’, where not only the quality of Galician mussels is celebrated, but also one of its main innovations: the new packaging for fresh mussels, developed by the Organisation of Galician Mussel Producers (OPMEGA).
These packs, designed to improve conservation and facilitate mussel consumption, are available to the Valladolid public in the market’s fishmongers. The key to this innovation lies in the controlled atmosphere of the packaging, which allows the mussels to be kept alive and perfectly clean, extending their shelf life by 40%. This is a great step forward both for consumers, who can enjoy the fresh product for longer, and for the fishing sector, which sees how the distribution chain is optimised without losing the characteristic quality of Galician mussels.
Furthermore, these packs are adapted to the needs of the modern consumer, as they are suitable for microwave cooking, which facilitates preparation without sacrificing the flavour and nutritional properties of the mussels. This commitment to practicality does not sacrifice sustainability or freshness, being a solution that combines tradition and technology for the benefit of both consumers and the environment.
During the conference, as well as being able to purchase these innovative trays, visitors will have the opportunity to attend showcookings in which the chef Miguel Mosteiro will show how to prepare various recipes with mussels. These events will allow attendees to learn first-hand about the many ways to enjoy this product, while promoting the use of the new packaging as a convenient and high quality option for everyday cooking.
To encourage the purchase of these trays, attendees will also receive recipe books and promotional gifts, thus contributing to a complete culinary experience that goes beyond simple tasting. With this initiative, OPMEGA reinforces its commitment to innovation in the sector and its objective of making a fresh, healthy and easy-to-prepare product available to all households.
With this proposal, the Gastronomic Days not only bring Galician mussels to the traditional markets of Spain, but also present an evolution in the way in which this product is consumed. The days, which have already been held in cities such as Madrid, Valencia and Bilbao, are now coming to Valladolid with a clear commitment to modernising the consumption of seafood products, without losing sight of the quality and flavour that characterise Galician mussels.
